The Voice of God

Got a phone call early this evening. Had to make a trip downtown to aid someone in need. It was after dinner and you know how we all feel after dinner. The couch was calling my name, trying to lure me in. So choosing to ride my bike instead of driving my car was a major accomplishment. (You may stand up and cheer for me now.)

I’m pretty committed to not driving my car unless absolutely necessary anymore.  And since the sun was still up and would be for a couple more hours I had plenty of time. No need to drive. So in the spirit of living a more human-powered, simpler life, I jumped on my bike. I rode downtown, took care of my “friend in need,” then began my journey home.

Lucky for me the route home is uphill. I had several routes to choose from. They are all uphill, some steep and short, some more gradual and longer. I chose one of the gradual longer climbs. My muscles, my legs, my heart, my lungs were all so happy.  They love the extra exercise.

As I was pedaling away up, up, uphill,  with a bit of heavy breathing thrown in, I heard a voice. A male voice came booming from the sky, it seemed. I looked up and down the road. There was no car coming up alongside me. I scanned the sidewalks.  There was no one walking anywhere near me. Ah-ha!  It must be God talking to me!

The voice was saying, “Hey you on the bike! Get moving. Pedal harder. Pedal faster!”

I looked around and there on a hill was a young twenty-something guy with a megaphone to his mouth. Apparently this was my fitness God for the day. The source of  the voice. He was staring down at me yelling, “I’m here to push you! Now get pedaling. Come on. Go. Don’t quit!”

My own personal trainer, motivator, and coach for my ride home. How many of you got that today? So I did what he said. I pedalled a little harder and made my heart, lungs, and body parts even happier.

Thanks, whoever you were!

That is awesome!! I’ve actually thought about randomly doing that, I mean I’ve done it before but with no megaphone…the megaphone is awesome!

Then do it. Get yourself one of those battery-powered megaphones and get out there on a regular day and play fitness coach, or cheerleader, or fan. You could make someone’s day. Or make their run or bike ride better. Why not?
