It’s not only the feet and legs of runners that need special care. Any distance runner will tell you that the boobs need some special attention too. I am reminded of this today because I blew it this morning. I went for a 9 mile run and didn’t do my usual boob protection. Now I have some gorgeous-yet-painful boob wounds on the underside of each of my boobs.
Now, in case you think it’s just the female runner who falls prey to boob injuries, I say, “Nay, not so!” Guys nipples can get rubbed too much and result in some serious bloodiness and pain. I’ve seen guys use duct tape to protect those nipples, but I think that sounds pretty painful too. I can’t imagine the fun they must have when they have to rip that tape off. Ouch!
I discovered the joys of Bag Balm when doing a 5-day bike trip down the Oregon coast. It literally saved my ass. This stuff is actually made for milking cows, but it’s great for athletes as well.
Anytime I’m heading out for a run that’s going to last more than an hour, I make Bag Balm part of my pre-running ritual. I slather my feet and I usually spread a good amount on the underside of my boobs. Otherwise my sportsbra just rubs me raw, like this morning.
Don’t be chincy with the stuff. Slather it on your toes, heels, under your boobs, or on your nipples. Anywhere that might get to much “rubbage.” You’ll love me for it later.
